AC induction motors IE2/IE3/IE4/IE5
The majority of AC motors used worldwide today are standard induction motors. These motors are relatively inexpensive, readily available and offer good performance over a long life. With the increasing focus on energy efficiency, all engine manufacturers have refined and improved their designs in recent years. The EDS3 converter was developed to ensure optimal control and maximum efficiency during operation even with older motor designs or newer high-efficiency designs. The operation can be performed in the simple V/F control mode or in the high-performance vector mode of the third generation, which delivers a torque of up to 200 % from zero speed without the need for an encoder.
Permanent magnet AC motors
They offer improved efficiency compared to standard induction motors. The use of permanent magnets in the motor design eliminates the need for a magnetization current, which reduces electrical losses. PM motors have been used in high-performance applications for many years, but this has always been achieved by using a feedback device, such as e.g. B. a resolver or encoder. The EDS3 device was developed for operation with AC-PM motors that do not require a return device. This allows them to be used without additional costs and complexity in applications that do not require position repositioning due to their energy efficiency benefits.
Brushless DC motors
BLDC motors are similar to AC-PM motors, however, the design requires a slightly different control method to optimize performance. The EDS3 converter has the flexibility to control this type of motor, with only simple parameter changes required. This provides much greater flexibility for OEMs, allowing the converter to be used in a wide variety of applications with different types of motors.
Synchronous reluctance motors
Synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM), not to be confused with switched reluctance motors, have a stator design similar to standard induction motors, but the rotor is significantly different to improve the overall efficiency of the motor. SynRM motors are ideal for variable torque applications. The EDS3-Umrichter can control synchronous reluctance motors, which can realize the benefits of energy saving.
