For operating a three-phase motor on a single-phase supply (Steinmetz circuit), approximately 70 µF per kW is normally required. Example: 0.37 kW three-phase motor multiplied by 70 µF equals 25 µF.
For a single-phase motor, capacitor capacity is approximately 30–50 µF per kW of output power, provided that the main and auxiliary windings have the same number of turns.
